Commissioned pieces can be made from either client's own or architect's drawings, or can be designed by myself in full consultation with the client. In most cases this process will begin with a home visit to establish the fundamental requirements of the design.
This also allows me to see the environment within which the completed piece will be set. Draft sketches and drawings can then be sent for approval until a final design is agreed upon. The client is under no obligation until full approval is given of the final design, the price is agreed and a commission accepted. A deposit of around 40% of the full price is usually required at this stage to cover the cost of materials, the balance being paid on delivery or collection of the completed piece. In the case of large commissions an interim payment may also be requested.
If you are interested in commissioning one or more pieces of furniture, please do not hesitate to contact me by 'phone or email, and I will be more than happy to answer any questions and discuss your requirements.

Materials

Whenever possible I use indigenous timber from local sources. Fortunately, there is a wide variety of beautiful and durable British timbers of excellent quality available: oak, ash, cherry, beech, chestnut and walnut among others. I also use imported timbers from sustainable sources, such as American black walnut, American maple and African mahoganies. Samples are available if requested.
